Petition for safer communities
South Africa is reported to have the highest rate of murder, robbery and property-related crimes in the world! The SAPS must do better!
Whilst our DA-led local and provincial governments do their best to help fight crime with local initiatives like neighbourhood watches, they have no control over the SAPS (South African Police Service) which falls under the ANC-national government’s control.
The government must act now, and:
- Increase visible policing in all communities
- Deploy more competent and well-trained police officers
- Equip police stations properly with vehicles and resources
- Implement specialised units to deal with gangs and drug-related crimes
- Increase resources to the rural safety units
- Support community police forums
- Guarantee the safety of those who report crimes
